Gilded Cage
One moment Ana is walking home from the library. The next she wakes on a velvet floor behind gilded bars, in a candlelit room lined with jars marked WOLFSBANE and MANDRAKE. Chained to the far wall of the cage, something with yellow eyes is watching her.
Their captor is Madame Sabine Morrow, an occultist with a laboratory and a theory: that old rites and new science together can turn a man into a weapon. Tonight the moon is full. Tonight her experiment is hungry. And Ana is the bait.
Getting out will take every trick Ana knows, and a few she doesn't. Surviving will leave her in debt to the only people who came looking for her. They have a name, and an offer, and they have waited a long time for her to say yes.
Some cages are made of gold. Some are made of promises.
