Spring Broken

Fort Lauderdale. Sun, sand, and a stranger on the beach with a knife.

Spring break, 1963. Half the campus has taken over Fort Lauderdale: convertibles on the strip, transistor radios on the sand, and nobody thinking past Saturday. Ana Chandra has a paperback, a cold drink, and a week to forget the semester.

Then the tests begin. A wallet planted in her bag. A stranger who knows where she grew up. A note slipped under her motel door in a language only she could read. Someone is pushing her, hard, to see where she breaks.

Someone else wants to make sure she never gets the chance. When a body washes up beneath the pier and a shadow follows her down the beach at sunset, Ana learns there are two players in this game, and only one of them wants her alive.

The sand won't hide you. Neither will the sea.
